Be Proud

This project is an attempt to get people to be more proud of themselves. I’ve noticed that people often don’t give themselves enough credit for all they do, whether that’s graduating or getting out of bed in the morning. I want folks to take a moment to be proud of themselves - it truly makes in a difference in how we carry ourselves through the day.

The project began with sitting outside with a sign that said "Tell me what you're proud of." As people came up and told me what they were proud of, I recorded the audio.

I then compiled the audio into a running loop of all the things people were proud of. I then built this structure with crocheted yarn interwoven throughout. The piece was installed in the University Center at CMU for three days. Viewers were invited to sit and listen to the audio recording and add to it themselves by writing what they were proud of on a slip of paper and tying it to the structure.
